The Principal Instructor and founder of SDT is Graham Kuerschner. Graham has almost 50 years experience in the martial arts in a variety of systems and is internationally trained and graded (Israel, Hong Kong and Philippines). He has been a contributing editor to Blitz, Australia’s leading national martial art magazine for over 12 years and has a regular column in every monthly issue.
He presently holds the ranks of Expert Level 2 in Krav Maga, 5th Level Instructor in Wing Chun, 5th Degree Black Belt in Doce Pares Eskrima (Filipino stick and knife fighting), 4th Degree Black Belt in Pangamot (Filipino Jiu Jitsu), and is a Senior Instructor in SDMS with Hoch Hockheim’s American Scientific Fighting Congress. Graham is also a blue belt of John Will’s Machado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He is a qualified Fitness Leader and a Level 2 Coach under the Federal Government’s National Coaching Accreditation Scheme, a past State and National Judo Champion and has won titles in full contact kickboxing and stick fighting.
Graham was involved in assisting Robert Redenbach teach representatives from the specialist Army and NSW Police units that have responsibility for providing security during the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Robert is the creator of the P.A.T.S. (formerly ‘Kontact’) system for security personnel and was the defensive tactics instructor for the South African security services.
Graham has a Bachelor’s degree and an Honours degree in Science from Adelaide University and a Masters degree in Business Management from Deakin University.
Paul has over 30 years martial arts experience and has also been internationally trained and graded. He presently holds the ranks of 2nd Level Wing Chun instructor, 4th Degree Black Belt in Doce Pares Eskrima and 3rd Degree Black Belt in Pangamot. Paul is also a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
To complement his martial arts experience, Paul has over 10 years experience in the security industry, principally working security on the doors of many major nightclubs and so brings a wealth of real hands-on experience to the school.
Paul has a Bachelor’s degree and an Honours degree in Economics from Flinders University.
Paul is the one of the “Three Amigoes” of Graham, Paul and Gary who have been friends and training partners for over 25 years.
Gary also has over 30 years martial arts experience, is a 1st level Wing Chun Instructor, blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is a certified coach in wrestling specialising in street orientated combat wrestling.
Gary has trained with the Australian Olympic coach for Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling and brings that dimension into the school’s self defence curriculum. He’s also worked with the Adelaide Crows Football Club as part of their ‘contact’ training program.
Gary is the third of the “Three Amigoes” having been a friend and training partner to Graham and Paul for over 25 years.
Tim has over 15 years experience in the martial arts, is a certified Krav Maga Instructor, a black belt in Freestyle karate, has spent 5 years training in MMA and presently works in the security industry.
Russell is a certified Krav Maga Instructor and an assistant instructor in eskrima and grappling. He is an officer in the Australian Army.
Chris is a certified Krav Maga instructor.
Brendan has over 15 years experience int he martial arts, is a black belt in freestyle kickboxing and a certified Krav Maga Instructor.
Andrew has over 10 years martial arts experience, has trained and competed in boxing and Muay Thai and is a certified Krav Maga Instructor.
